About Me

At the age of 18, I discovered I am most blissfully happy when immersed in a finely tuned choral sound. The realisation came from joining the University Choir when studying Law in Western Australia, I had moved from Wales to Australia without my family and felt lost in most aspects of my life. I would live for those rehearsals, evensong services and concerts, and often felt like I was being “punched in the gut” from the beauty I would experience settling on a particular chord composed by Britten, Palestrina or Lauridsen (if you know you know). I decided to audition for the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts to study classical voice, and haven’t looked back since.

My time studying was challenging, as it took me some time to discover I’m not an opera singer, and tend to be drawn to either early repertoire or contemporary music composed ‘yesterday’. I have been fortunate to build a career focused on choral singing, baroque repertoire and contemporary repertoire, and am motivated to continue to perform this repertoire I am most passionate about.

I firmly believe that as a performer, it is not about me. It is about the sound, the message, the magic between the lines of the text, the historical significance and the composer. This comes very naturally in a chamber music or choral setting, where one can fade into the mix and the bliss - but of course sometimes I find myself performing in a solo capacity. I do not see this as an opportunity to dazzle the audience with my technical abilities, I see this as a great responsibility and privilege, and I endeavour to communicate the feeling of the music to the best of my ability.

I have also been fortunate to record vocals for soundtracks for various media, I do genuinely love this work, as I find I can be entirely free with my vocal and produce a sound that is simply ‘me’. I have recently moved back to the UK after 11 years living in Australia, it’s amazing to be around my family again and I truly feel like I’m home. I am looking forward to finding my place in the UK music scene and continuing to share my passion for music with the world.
